Back by Popular Demand - The Process Theatre Company and Whole World Theatre present a co-production of two Del Shores plays in repertory this fall. From the acclaimed playwright comes Southern Baptist Sissies and Sordid Lives. Back from its sold out run; join Southern Baptist Sissies, which follows the journey of four gay boys growing up in the Baptist Church. Storyteller Mark Lee Fuller tries to create a world of love and acceptance in the church and clubs of Dallas, Texas, while desperately trying to find a place to put his own pain and rage. With Sordid Lives, we become intimate with the family in a small Texas town preparing for the funeral of their mother. Among the characters is the grandson trying to find his identity in West Hollywood and the son who has spent the past twenty-three years dressed as Tammy Wynette. We’re doing the new updated version and that includes Juanita, the chain smoking, wise cracking barfly. Fri & Sat, 8pm now-Dec 8, 2007. Click here to see calendar

ABOUT Southern Baptist Sissies
With a theme of religion clashing with sexuality, the play opened to rave reviews in Los Angeles during its original run in 2000 and became the most awarded play of the year, winning the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding LA Theater Production, as well as multiple LA Weekly Theater Awards, Los Angeles Critics Awards, Ovation Awards, Backstage West Garland Awards and Robby Awards. "Daring. Heroic. No-holds-barred hilarious." --LA Times. "Cathartic, comedic, awe-inspiring." --Daily Variety. "Brash, sensitive and compelling. An evening of engrossing and, at times, hilarious theatre." --The Hollywood Reporter. "Distinctive and arresting. A funny and yet strangely moving treatment of goodhearted, wacky Texans suffering through an intolerant world." --Chicago Tribune. "Wrenching as it is hilarious." --Dallas Morning News.
ABOUT Sordid Lives
When Peggy, a good Christian woman, hits her head on the sink and bleeds to death after tripping over her lover’s wooden legs in a seedy motel room, chaos erupts in Winters, Texas. We become intimate with the Sordid Lives of a family in a small Texas town preparing for the funeral of their mother. Among the characters are the grandson trying to find his identity in West Hollywood, the son who has spent the past twenty-three years dressed as Tammy Wynette, the sister and her best friend (who live in delightfully kitschy homes), and the two daughters (one strait-laced and one quite a bit looser). Theatre reviews: “His colorful eccentric are dead on, teetering on a Bowie knife’s edge between the hilarious improbable and the achingly real.” L.A.Times. –“Run, don’t walk to Del Shores new play!” DramaLogue – “Pick of the Week.” L.A. Weekly. Winner of 14 DramaLogue awards including Best Production.
