What is a read-a-thon you ask?
It's a 10-hour play reading marathon. Think of it as a walk-a-thon, but without the blisters. You can spend a whole day reading or listening to new plays by local Atlanta playwright's including Evan Guilford-Blake, John Drago, Hank Kimmell, Topher Payne and Markie Shalloe and several more..
How do I become reader?
Just email us at theprocesstheatreco@yahoo.com and put New Play Read-A-Thon in the subject line to get your pledge form. Once you have raised the $25 minimum, you will email us to let us know and you're all signed up. Of course don't stop there remember the reader who raises the most money wins our 1st prize package. But that’s not all we are also giving a 2nd prize package away that all the readers have a chance to win. For every $25 you raise we will put your name in a hat for a chance to win our second prize package. The prize packages includes gift certificates to local businesses and theatres throught out the metro area.
Do I have to be available the whole day?
No, you don’t have to available for the whole day. You just have to be available for a 4 hour time slot during the day to come and read.
What if I just want to listen?
Admission is just a $5 donation to be audience member for the whole day. Your donation will also put your name in a hat for a chance to win our 3rd Prize Package which will be given away at the end of the day.
About the Read-A-Thon
The Read-A-Thon will start at 9:00 am and continue until 10pm that night. We will take a 3 hour break from 2:30-5:30 while Onstage performs "The Harvey Milk Show”. There will also be food and snacks through out the day for all participating readers.
About The Process Theatre:
The Process has developed over thirty plays, many of which have been produced by the company, including the world premieres of “The Suicide Manual” and “Babylon” by Markie Shalloe, and “Relations Unknown” by Topher Payne. Our regional premieres have included “Southern Baptist Sissies” by Del Shores, and “Journeys” by Evan Guilford-Blake. The Process Theatre hosted the original workshops for a several plays which have gone on to be produced at other theatres locally and around the country such as “Chopped Liver in Paradise” by Vynnie Meli, produced by Jewish Theatre of The South in 2007, “Riffed” by Gabriel Dean, produced as dark night production at Actors Express Theatre in 2005, “One Hand Clapping” by Markie Shalloe which premiered at The Process and was also performed at The Madison Theatre in Madison, WI, and “The Attala County Garden Club” by Topher Payne, produced in Georgia by Onstage Atlanta and Kudzu Playhouse in 2006, and in Mississippi by Brick Street Players in 2007. The Process Theatre’s 2008 world premieres of “Above the Fold” and “Don’t Look at the Fat Lady” garnered seven Metro Atlanta Theatre Award nominations, including Best Original Work and Best Play of the Year for both productions. This year The Process along with Onstage Atlanta produced the southeastern premiere of “The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife” by Del Shores and in the spring will be producing at Onstage Atlanta the world premiere of “Christina Darling” by Topher Payne about the life of actress Joan Crawford and her daughter Christina Crawford.
