ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Babylon: “The best whorehouse in the Quatah,” says Madam. It’s 1961 and summer in New Orleans is hotter than Hades on a frying pan. Money’s gone missing, jazz is seeping up through the heating vents, and Babylon’s biggest draw, a transvestite called Virgin Mary, is at the boiling point. Enter Persephone, a young woman with a mystery, hired by Madame to find out who’s stealing, who’s lying, and who might not make it through the night.

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Marki Shalloe has written some of the cleverest plays produced in Atlanta. Babylon is the fourth play of Marki’s produced by The Process Theatre. We produced “The Suicide Manual” last year, “One Hand Clapping” in fall 2002 and “Four Glasses” in fall 2003. In September 2004, her plays “Bald Grace” and “One Hand Clapping” were performed in Chicago at the Stockyard Theatre Projects at Stage Left Theatre. Her play “Ariadne’s Thread” was the winner of Onstage Atlanta’s 2003 Hometown Playwrights Award and was produced at Onstage in the summer of 2003. A series of her monologues were included in the book Audition Arsenal for Women in their 20’s published by Smith and Kraus. The play “Promethea Unlaced” is being produced in Boulder, CO this month.
