ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Theodora, She-Bitch of Byzantium: Inspired by Sarah Bernhardt’s legendary performance in Sardou’s “Theodora,” this one-act comedy tells the tale of the Empress Theodora, a former circus performer, trapped in a loveless marriage to the perverse Emperor Justinian. One night, masquerading as a boy, she visits a gypsy Camp to get a love potion to give to the pederastic emperor. Unfortunately, she downs the cocktail herself and falls instantly in love with Andreas, a handsome revolutionary who is plotting to kill her husband. By the end of the play, the entire cast lies dead with Theodora, the last survivor, plunging a dagger into herself. Who says Tragedy can’t be fun?

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Charles Busch is the author of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, which The Process Theatre Co. produced this past fall. The play also ran for five years in NYC and is one of the longest running plays in Off- Broadway history. He is also the author and star of such plays as The Lady in Question, and Red Scare on Sunset. His play The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife ran for 777 performances on Broadway and won Mr. Busch the Outer Circle Critics John Gassner Award and received a Tony nomination for Best Play. He wrote and starred in the film versions of his plays, Psycho Beach Party and Die Mommie Die, the latter of which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2003, Mr. Busch received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright.
